Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 7, 2026

We hate the kind of privacy policy that hides simple answers behind 14 pages of legalese. So we wrote ours in plain English first and put the formal sections after.

Plain-English summary

  • We do not require accounts, sign-ups, or any personal information to read the site or use the fridge tool.
  • The fridge tool saves what you type to your own browser's localStorage, on your device, for up to 7 days. We never see it.
  • Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) keeps standard server logs including IP addresses and user-agent strings, used for security and uptime, kept short-term.
  • We use Google AdSense to show advertising once the site is live and approved. AdSense uses cookies. You can opt out at any time.
  • We use Amazon Associates for affiliate links on certain pages. If you click one and buy something, we earn a small commission. You pay nothing extra.
  • We never sell your personal information. We do not have personal information to sell.

What we collect

From visitors directly: nothing required. The site does not have user accounts. The fridge tool stores your typed ingredients in your own browser's localStorage with a 7-day TTL; this never leaves your device.

Server logs: Cloudflare, our hosting provider, keeps short-term logs of HTTP requests including IP address, user-agent string, request path, and timestamp. These are used for site security and uptime monitoring, retained per Cloudflare's standard log retention.

From contact emails: if you email us, we keep the email and our reply for record-keeping. We do not add you to any mailing list.

Analytics: we may use privacy-friendly analytics (such as Cloudflare Web Analytics or Plausible) that count page-views without using cookies or fingerprinting. These tools do not collect personal information.

Cookies and similar

HangryHQ itself does not set tracking cookies. The fridge tool uses localStorage (not a cookie) on your own browser to remember the ingredients you typed.

Once Google AdSense is enabled, it sets cookies to measure ad performance and serve relevant ads. You can manage AdSense preferences at adssettings.google.com, and you can opt out of personalized advertising at any time.

You can clear all site data at any time using your browser's built-in clear-site-data tools. Doing so will reset the fridge tool to empty.

Third-party services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Cloudflare for hosting, CDN, and DNS. See their privacy policy.
  • Google AdSense (when enabled) for advertising. See Google's privacy policy.
  • Amazon Associates for affiliate links. Clicks on these links pass through Amazon's tracking. See Amazon's privacy notice.
  • TheMealDB, Spoonacular, Edamam for recipe images hotlinked from their CDNs. These services may log requests for their images.
  • Google Workspace for our team email (legal@hangryhq.com, hello@hangryhq.com).

Affiliate disclosures

HangryHQ is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon properties.

When you click an ingredient shopping link in our fridge tool or a cookbook link on a chef page, you may be sent to Amazon (or another retail partner). If you make a purchase, we earn a small commission. You pay nothing extra. We disclose these links in context, in line with the FTC's 2023 endorsement guidelines.

Children's privacy

HangryHQ is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please email legal@hangryhq.com and we will delete it.

Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)

If you are in the European Economic Area or UK, the GDPR gives you the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to our processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Since the only personal data we hold about you is short-term server logs and any email correspondence, exercising these rights typically means asking us to delete those.

If you are a California resident, the CCPA gives you the right to know what personal information we have, request deletion, and opt out of any sale of your personal information. We do not sell personal information.

To exercise any of these rights, email legal@hangryhq.com from the email address you used to contact us, or describe the information you want us to find. We respond within 30 days.

Updates to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of the page reflects the most recent revision. For any material change, we will note it on the homepage for at least 30 days.
